Reaching the Unreached in Mongolia

Outside and inside a home-church in Uves province

Many people in Mongolia have still never heard of Jesus and the church there is still very ‘young’. In fact, the average kiwi Christian probably has a greater grasp of the bible than most pastors working in rural Mongolia. We’re committed to equipping pastors with training at Asian Outreach Mongolia’s Great Commission Institute (GCI), so they can evangelise and disciple new believers more effectively and grow healthy churches across even the most remote parts of the country.

For $120, you can put a Mongolian pastor through a  GCI course.

This programme will expand their bible-knowledge, teach them leadership skills and how to nurture leadership in others too. GCI has been around since 1997 and is responsible for training over 80% of the first-generation of Christian leaders in Mongolia, so it’s clearly a reputable and effective ministry!

Asian Outreach Mongolia is expanding the GCI programme into the distant province of Uves. There are 80 pastors waiting there, eager to learn more about the Word! They can’t just equip themselves with resources – firstly many of them aren’t online and there is no surplus of Christian resources available in the Mongolian language (as there is in English). So this is our chance to be part of The Great Commission! We’re not all called to pack our bags and become missionaries, but Jesus’ mandate to “make disciples of all nations” still applies. And funding pastors to attend a GCI course, is an awesome way to support people on the frontline of the unreached places.

Would you consider…

  • Paying $120 for a pastor to attend a GCI course and be equipped with bible-study materials?
  • Helping fund half the salary ($3250) of a full-time trainer/coordinator for this course? Maybe your church has a missions-budget specifically for such a purpose! Email glenn@asianoutreach.org.nz if you require further details.

Training pastors to impact their community for Christ:

Amaraa is a painting teacher, mother of four children and founder/ leader of the “Eternal Blessings Church” in Uvs Province. She did GCI training as a new believer and deepened her understanding of the power of the cross. During evening ministry time she had an encounter with the Holy Spirit that ignited her passion for evangelism. Amaraa went on to share about Jesus to her mum, dad and siblings and all 8 family members accepted Christ. Her friends and colleagues were also drawn to the Lord through Amaraa’s preaching and the group grew and evolved into a small church which she has now led for seven years.

Davaateren, Pastor of Salvation of Jesus church, had read the book of Mathew a couple of times, but never really quite understood what the ‘kingdom of God’ was all about. Taking a GCI course gave her fresh revelation about how Jesus came to the earth to establish his kingdom through his church. She went away passionate about beginning to encourage the members of her church to live out their faith at their homes and workplaces.

GCI Trains Christian professionals too!

The Great Commission Institute has widened it’s scope to equip Christian professionals for missional-living.  Asian Outreach Mongolia’s leaders recognise their post-Communism society is hungry for transformation.  Through GCI, Christian professionals are being equipped to make an impact for Christ in their workplaces and circles of influence.  With the help of GCI training they’re encouraged to strategically connect with other believers in their workplaces, stand up for justice and influence their workplaces with biblical truth. They will effectively fight corruption and impact thousands of people in the communities they are connected to through their jobs and businesses.

Enkhbayer moved from Ulaanbaatar city to Nalaikh town to work with street people.  Prior to this he had been a businessman but upon becoming a Christian he thought he needed to focus his energy on evangelism and working within the church.  However, he realised his giftings are suited to business and he saw many opportunities in Nalaikh because of all its natural resources. Through attending GCI training, Enkhbayer realised that running a business can have a significant role in society and can be a way in which the church interacts with the community.
